Evaluation Of Laser Welding Process In Low Dose Rate rachytherapy Microcapsules Production

Abstract:

Preparation of low dose rate brachytherapy microcapsules requires a complicated process that needs to be evaluated at each step of manufacture. Microcapsule size is very small and the use of laser welding has many parameters that should be evaluated in order to obtain an efficient welding technique and to get safe products that can be implanted into the body tissues.
This study evaluated the use of laser energy, the movement of welding process and possible changes in the elemental composition of the material after the welding process. Evaluation was carried out by comparing the energy of laser pulse shape option to welding penetration. Welding movement was compared between turning on the vertical axis of the circular motion using x and y axes. The elements of the material were observed using scanning electroscopy (SEM). The use of spike pulse shape with ramp down can reduce power usage up to 40%, the increase in the percentage of C and O in melting regions was found, additional elements of argon was not found, and hence microcapsule was safe to be implanted into the body tissues.
