Abstract:
Measurement of neutron radiography image quality post-addition of tomography system in the facility RNI Batan-Serpong, has been done. Measurement aims to determine the quality of the neutron beam based on ASTM standard E-545-05.
Measurements were made with the direct method (radiographic film) using standard sample Sensitivity Indicator (SI) and Beam Purity Indicator (BPI), and D3 AGFA film. The quality of the neutron beam coming out of the tube is determined by the characteristics of the beam collimator. At the time of the film neutron radiography system is operated in conjunction with tomography, it gives the number of thermal neutrons:40.20%; scattered neutron: 0.70%; gamma: 1.50%; pair production: 3.30%; the number of visible lines and holes are: 6 and 4. The quality of the image produced when the tomograghy is in operation is not good (blur). Wereas if the neutron radiography film is only operated, it gives the thermal neutrons: 62.20%; scattered neutron: 0.5%; gamma: 1.80%; pair production: 2.30%; the number of visible lines and holes are: 7 and 4. Neutron Radiography image quality when only neutron radiography film is operated gives better image. It can be concluded that to get a better image quality of neutron radiography, the film method cannot be operated simultaneously with the tomography system.
