Abstract
This study aims to identify and evaluate thermal comfort performance of Common Classroom at New Campus of Faculty of Engineering Hasanuddin University which is located in the Unhas Campus Gowa.
At this early stage of research, data collections were carried out by measuring several thermal comfort variables: air temperature, humidity, and wind speed and direction. Two areas were selected for the thermal performance measurement i.e. a classroom at 1 st /F and lobby at G/F. In addition, two classrooms were also selected for thermal comfort survey on users opinions. The results of measurements at the two points in the lobby G/F showed that the average temperature is outside the thermal comfort zone. Similar results were also obtained in the measurements made in the classroom at 1 st /F. The highest temperature occurred at 3:00PM to 3:30PM. After 3:30PM, the air temperature dropped, but remained above the comfort zone. The results of the relative humidity measurements showed an average of about 50%. This indicated that the air was rather dry conditions, which was caused by high outside air temperatures (reaching 34 o C). At the time of measurement, the wind direction was dominated by westerly winds with a speed that arrived in the southern part of the building was about 2 m/s. However, this wind was not generated airflow movement inside the classroom. The survey on user opinion of the thermal comfort performance in the two classrooms showed that students and lecturers feel discomfort caused by the high air temperatures and lack of
airflow in the room.
